Xiaomi has started updating its Redmi Note 4 budget smartphone to Android v.7.0 Nougat recently. The update, as usual, is via OTA and thus it is expected to take some time before it hits all handsets out there. Surprisingly the update is not centred around MIUI 9 but rather v.8.5.4.0.
Xiaomi had launched the Redmi Note 4 earlier this year in three variants,
- 2GB RAM coupled with 32GB of internal memory for N56,957
- 3GB RAM coupled with 32GB of internal memory for N62,653
- 4GB RAM coupled with 64GB of internal memory for N74,046
The smartphone comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with the above specifications. Storage can be augmented thanks to the hybrid dual-SIM tray allowing for a microSD card (up to 128GB). On the camera front, the device features a 13-megapixel CMOS sensor with a f/2.0 aperture, 77° wide-angle lens with support for Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF) and a dual-LED CCT flash. Selfie duties are handled by a 5-megapixel CMOS sensor featuring an 85° wide-angle lens. The front of the device is dominated by a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080 x1920) IPS panel based display clad under a layer of 2.5D curved glass.
Powering all this hardware is a 4100mAh battery which can be charged via the microUSB port. Out of the box the Redmi Note 4 came with MIUI v.8.x based on Android v.6.x, Marshmallow.
