In May there were reports that data prices and call packages would increase if section 24 of the Act on the Suppression of the Abuse of Crime in 2015 is being implemented. Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) is preparing a price list for data to be launched soon, as confirmed by the Executive Vice President of NCC Professor Umar Danbatta.
If the Law on Prohibiting and Preventing Cybercrime in 2015 is implemented, it will not be funny because we will pay up to four times more than what we now pay for monthly data. Probably we will have 250MB for N1000 with 30 days of validity and a data plan of 10 MB to N100 will last one day and calls will be charged at 1 naira / sec.
The new price may not match exactly the above, but it is sure that this will increase and you should not expect less than what you currently pay for the data. We have seen so many foreign actions that the government has to use by some African countries to regulate the use of the Internet; like Ugandans who pay 200 shillings a day just for access to social media and such things.
It seems that Nigeria also points to that direction, and despite the recent complains of subscribers that data packets are gathering, NCC wants to add salt to the wound, it continues to increase. Professor Danbatta published a discovery on Thursday during his induction as a member of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAE).
